If you’ve been to Siargao, you might’ve heard of the so-called ‘Siargao Curse’ but what does it really mean?
A lot of tourists & travelers have invented the term solely because of the reason that everytime they come to Siargao, they keep coming back, or better yet, they stay for good. It’s like the island has this magical essence that pulls people to it. Is that really what you can call a curse?
We asked some of our friends who have been in and out of the island for some time now.
Here’s what our good friend, Abet, a fourth or fifth timer (seriously, we lost count!) Siargao visitor, has to say:
“There’s something about the feeling Siargao gives you: the laid-back, slow-living lifestyle, the surf, the breathtaking nature, THE SUNSETS, and most importantly, the locals who welcome you with warmth and smiles. It’s a place where genuine friendships are formed, where life feels unhurried and meaningful, and where everyone seems to savor every single moment. Every time I’m there, it feels like the world outside fades away, and I’m reminded of how life is meant to be lived. So yes, the Siargao curse is real-and I don’t mind being under its spell.”
Another friend of ours, MJ, who just happen to stumble in Siargao, in her journey of discovery and healing, shared us her experience:
“Siargao magic is 100% real! The island taught me that happiness can really be achieved in simplest things. I’ve experienced significant life changes, personal healing and self discovery that leads me to create a permanent life in there. The slow and simple island living. I think it’s not only the charisma of the island itself but the warmth of locals, how welcoming they are to all kinds of tourists.” – MJ
And of course, our avid almost local girl, Pie, who spends half of her year on the island, shared her testimony as well
“Siargao curse is real and it lets people stay in the island because they get to find a home away from their home, meet beautiful souls and have new experiences that won’t be forgotten” – Pie
Lastly, we asked a first-timer Siargao visitor, Dhei, what she thought about it:
“Last November, I stayed there alone, at first I was very scared but i conquered my fears and felt very lucky. I’ve met many people from all over the world and i can say that the siargao curse is true because the experience there is unforgettable all of the memories. The locals are very friendly, the hospitality is superb. Siargao is one of the best island in the Philippines.” – Dhei
These are only a few of the many testimonies we’ve heard from the people visiting the island. What about you? Do you have any experience that has to do with the Siargao Curse?
